A la grande surprise d'Astérix et Obélix, il veut donner la recette de la potion magique à l'heureux élu. Avec eux, il se met en quête de la perle rare dans toute la Gaule. Pendant ce temps, un magicien maléfique et avide de pouvoir veut mettre la main sur la fameuse recette et s'allie avec Jules César, qui voudrait bien, enfin, mettre à genoux, les irréductibles Gaulois...
